This accelerated course is designed for intermediate Spanish students preparing for careers in healthcare or related fields. It emphasizes both linguistic fluency and cultural competence required for meaningful and accurate communication with Spanish-speaking patients in clinical settings. Students will develop a working knowledge of medical terminology related to body systems, symptoms, treatments, and patient care. Through interactive role-plays, multimedia resources, and culturally embedded tasks, students will build confidence in conducting basic patient interviews, explaining procedures, and offering instructions in Spanish. Special focus is placed on navigating cultural beliefs about health and healing, building trust, and avoiding miscommunication that can arise from language barriers or cultural misunderstandings. The course is grounded in real-world communication and promotes inclusivity, empathy, and ethical engagement in diverse healthcare environments.
