This course is an online course designed for teachers 5-12 who wish to continue to develop their language skills and study Mayan and Aztec cultures and Spanish language through myths and legends of Mexico. Participants will study documentaries, video and short stories. The information studied in this class depict popular myths and legends from various regions of Mexico, where the Aztec and Mayan civilizations were developed; and that have shaped the nature of Mexican people. Emphasis will be on vocabulary building, improving conversational and writing skills, reading comprehension, literary analysis, as well as discussions of cultural and historical events of the films ‘contexts. The projected outcome of this course is to provide classroom teachers with the knowledge, understanding, and methodologies needed to enable them to have more engaging students using cultural aspects in their class. Students relate more to popular current events that might help them to understand Latin American customs and differentiate from their own. A native speaker conducts this course in Spanish.
