This course is an online course designed for teachers 5-12 who wish to continue to develop their language skills and study French culture and language through French films. Participants will study four films: L’Ascension, Bienvenue à Marly-Gomont, Entre les murs et Inch’Allah dimanche. The films depict problems encountered by immigrants in France in the 20th and 21st centuries. Emphasis will be on vocabulary building, improving conversational and writing skills, reading comprehension, literary analysis, as well as discussions of cultural and historical events of the films ‘contexts. The projected outcome of this course is to provide classroom teachers with the knowledge, understanding, and methodologies needed to enable them to have more engaging students through the use of films in their class. Two of these films explain problems encountered by immigrants in a comical manner that will appeal to your students. Three of the films are based on true stories. This course is conducted in French by a native speaker, Dr. Sylvie Pressman.
